Calcium aluminate based-cements for endodontic application

Despite the good clinical performance of MTA cement, some of its negative features must be considered. These deficiencies justify the research and development of new materials with adequate physico-mechanical and biological properties, such as calcium aluminate-based cements. Calcium aluminate based-cements have a great potential in the dental area due to their biological compatibility, mechanical strength and good physico-chemical properties.

Posterior Maxillary Segmental Osteotomy for Prosthetic Rehabilitation

A patient with a significant posterior maxillary extrusion and no residual occlusal space for prosthodontics rehabilitation sought for treatment. After clinical examination was decided, in accordance with the patient, performed a posterior maxillary segmental osteotomy and prosthodontics rehabilitation with a removable partial denture. The surgery and the removable partial denture were planned with the use of a semi adjustable articulator.

Several classifications for the partially denture arches have been proposed since the begining of the past century; however they are still used to date. This literature review revealed an antithesis among authors due to various parameters involved in the attempt to include all the requirements of a classification. With regards to variations between mechanical and topographic aspects, the position of retainers remains rather confusing. In order to improve the understanding of such matter, an analysis of all aspects relating to the main classifications was carried out.

Sequential Theory of Impaction of Permanent Maxillary Canines–Culmination of Guidance Theory and Genetic Theory

The location of the permanent maxillary canine at the angle of the mouth is strategically significant in maintaining the harmony and symmetry of the occlusal relationship and in determining the contours of the oral cavity. However, the maxillary canine is the second most frequently impacted tooth with the prevalence of impaction reported to be between 1-2% in the general population. Moreover, treatment of this condition is often complex and involves substantial time and financial cost. Hence, it is only prudent to monitor the eruption patterns and identify the aetiological factors that lead to impaction of the maxillary canine.

Pyogenic Granuloma Mimicking a Cutaneous Horn on the Lip of a Child

Pyogenic granuloma is a relative common nonneoplastic mouth lesion associated to irritation or trauma, but extra oral sites have been reported. The treatment employed includes removal of cause and excisional biopsy. Cutaneous horn is an uncommon lesion resembling horn of animals affecting more common in elder caucasians.
